Set Of Two Studies For A Self-Portrait - Premium Quality Canvas Gallery Wrap Final Size - Digital Download

Francis Bacon's 1970 study for a self-portrait is one of the artist's most unflinching meditations on identity, rendered here as a faceless portrait where the sitter's features dissolve into smears of grey, ochre, dark brown, and flesh tone against a stark black ground. The distortion feels less like abandonment of the face than an interrogation of it - how far can a self bend before it stops being recognizable. This is dark art in the truest sense: introspective, unsettling, and quietly existential, closer to a philosophical question than a portrait painting in the traditional sense.
